How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Click the yellow area and pick your HEIC photos, or drag the files onto the page. You can pick many at once.
- Leave JPG selected (or choose PNG) and adjust the quality if you like.
- Photos are converted right away. Download each one with Download, or all of them with Download all (ZIP).
If you change the format or the quality afterwards, the photos are converted again automatically.
What is HEIC?
HEIC (or HEIF) is the format iPhones and iPads have used to save photos since iOS 11. It takes about half the space of a JPG at the same quality, which is why Apple made it the default. The catch is that plenty of things still can’t open HEIC: Windows PCs without the right extension, job and school application sites, company systems, photo printing services and many apps.
Converted to JPG, your photo opens everywhere.
What it’s for
- Uploading iPhone photos to a website or form that only accepts JPG (applications, IDs, résumés, listings).
- Opening on Windows the photos you copied by cable, email or USB stick.
- Sending photos to a print shop.
- Editing in programs that don’t recognize HEIC.
JPG or PNG?
JPG is what almost everyone needs: it opens everywhere and the size is reasonable. At a quality between 85% and 92%, the difference from the original is practically invisible. PNG keeps every pixel without loss, but an iPhone photo saved as PNG can go over 15 MB. Only use PNG if you’ll edit the image many times.
Your photos never leave your device
The conversion happens in your own browser. Photos aren’t uploaded to any server, which matters when they’re family pictures, documents or medical exams. No sign-up, no watermark and no photo limit.
A handy side effect: the JPG doesn’t carry the hidden data from the original photo (EXIF), such as GPS location and phone model. It’s an easy way to share a photo without revealing where it was taken.
How to stop getting HEIC on iPhone
If you’d rather your iPhone saved JPG from the start, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG (and take more space). Alternatively, keep HEIC and turn on Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC: Automatic, which converts photos when you copy them by cable.
Frequently asked questions
Do photos lose quality?
Very little. Photos keep their original resolution (a 12-megapixel photo stays 4032 × 3024 pixels). At 92% quality, JPG compression is invisible to the naked eye.
Why do some photos take a moment?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox can’t open HEIC on their own, so the page downloads a HEIC reader once (about 3 MB) and decodes each photo on your device. In Safari (iPhone and Mac), conversion is faster because the browser already understands the format.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. On iPhone, tap the yellow area, choose Photo Library and select your photos. When downloading, save to Files or share directly.
What about Live Photos?
A Live Photo is a HEIC still with a short video attached. The tool converts the still photo; the video is left out.
Can it convert other formats?
Yes. If you add a WEBP, PNG or other image, it becomes a JPG too. For WEBP files there’s also WEBP to PNG or JPG. To combine photos into a PDF, use image to PDF.
