Split a PDF

Pick the pages you want to keep in a new PDF, or split the file into one PDF per page, every few pages or by ranges.

Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

How to split a PDF

  1. Click the yellow area and pick your PDF, or drag the file onto the page.
  2. In Pick pages, click the thumbnails of the pages you want to keep (or type, for example, 1-3, 5). To create several files, use Split into files: one PDF per page, one every few pages, or one per range.
  3. Click the download button. Several files come together in a ZIP.

Tip: hold Shift while clicking to select every page between the last one you clicked and the current one.

What it’s for

  • Send only the pages that matter from a contract, statement or report instead of the whole file.
  • Separate a scanned PDF with several documents (ID, proof of address, forms) into one file each.
  • Break a book or handout into chapters.
  • Send smaller files when a website or email has a size limit.

Picking and reordering pages

In Selected pages you can type:

  • a single page: 4
  • a range: 2-6
  • from a page to the end: 8-
  • combinations separated by commas: 1-3, 5, 9-

Pages are placed in the order you type them. Typing 5, 1-4 makes page 5 the first one. You can also repeat a page, like 1, 1.

Splitting by ranges

In Split into files, with By ranges, each comma-separated range becomes its own file. For example, 1-3, 4-10, 11- creates three PDFs: pages 1 to 3, 4 to 10, and 11 to the end.

Your documents never leave your device

The PDF is opened and split in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, which matters for contracts, bank statements and personal documents. There’s also no page limit and no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Does splitting reduce the quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without recompression. Text, images and signatures stay exactly like the original.

Why won’t my PDF open?

If the PDF is password-protected, remove the protection first in the program that created it. Damaged files may not open either.

How do I open the ZIP file?

On Windows and Mac, double-click it. On phones, the built-in Files app (iPhone and Android) opens ZIP files without installing anything.

Is there a page limit?

There’s no fixed limit. A regular computer can split PDFs with hundreds of pages. On a phone, very large files may slow the browser down.

Page content stays the same. Fillable form fields and the sidebar outline (bookmarks) may not be kept in the split files.
